Snowshoe Trail

Like a trapper through Alaska: discover the snow-covered pre-Alpine landscape on snowshoes at Atzmännig Mountain. Two trails - also suitable for beginners - are open for individual snowshoe hikers. You will find a cosy restaurant for a break on both trails. The indicated times depend on the amount of snow and the conditions of the trails. Snowshoes may be rented at Atzmännig base station.

Route 1: Chrüzegg

Atzmännig top station – Chrüzegg – Atzmännig base station
Distance: 7.0 km, time: 3 to 4 hours

Route 2: Altschwand

Atzmännig top station – Altschwand – Atzmännig base station
Distance: 3.5 km, time: 1.5 to 2 hours

Rates

Snowshoe rental You may rent snowshoes at Atzmännig base station.  Per day including ascent by chairlift CHF 26.00 for adults, children up to 16 years CHF 20.00.

Full moon snowshoe tour Experience an unforgettable evening on a guided moonlight hike. A guide accompanies the participants to the snow-covered hills around Atzmännig Mountain. Start is at 6:15 p.m. at Atzmännig base station. The hike will take about 2-3 hours, with a break for a little snack and a tasty fondue at the end.

Tariff provisions:

  • All tickets, except point tickets, are non-transferable.
  • Any misuse of tickets results in an immediate withdrawal without compensation.
  • Lost tickets and passes will not be replaced.
  • If the company does not provide its services in connection with the sale of tickets or the use of facilities, or does not provide some of them, permanently or only temporarily, the customer has no claims (repayment or damages against the company). This applies in particular to business pinterruptions or suspensions or closures or pistes and paths in the following cases: - coincidence - force majeures such as wind and weather influences - avalanche danger - strikes - official orders or restrictions (as a result of a power shortage) - self restriction due to special circumstances (among other things as a result of austerity appeals by the authorities due to a power shortage) - pandemic or epidemic.
  • Ski patrol and rescue service monitor and control the marked ski runs.
  • Ski runs are marked on both sides.

In addition to cash in CHF and Euro, we also accept Reka checks and major credit cards.

Route description

The trail head for both routes is located at Atzmännig top station. After a short ascent to Schwammegg, the trail leads down to Hinterer Rotstein. The routes separate from here.

Route 1: Chrüzegg
Distance: 7.0 km
Time: 3 to 4 hours
Difference in altitude: ascent: 150m, descent: 500m
Time from the top station with a chance of sinking in 5 to 10 cm.

Description: What a way to start! Strength is required on a short demanding passage along a rock face. You will then pass a small house along the marked route in direction towards Tweralphütte to the Chrüzegg mountain restaurant. There is a short ascent after the restaurant to «Chümibarren», another 50m further on through the forest, then along the ridge in direction of «Im Chabis». The easier way is taking a left at the Chrüzegg restaurant through the forest to «Im Chabis» (1b) from where you will finally take the route down to the base station.

Route 2: Altschwand
Distance: 3.5 km
Time: 1.5 to 2 hours
Difference in altitude: ascent: 100m, descent: 450m
Time from the top station with a chance of sinking in 5 to 10 cm.

Description: This trail is a shorter version of route 1 as you descend to the Altschwand restaurant and go back from there to the base station.

Rules of conduct
- Do not leave the official trails.
- The woods are retreats for wildlife, therefore never leave the marked trails in the forest at any time.
- Enjoy the beauty of the landscape and do not leave anything behind – besides your tracks in the snow.

We have prepared the routes according to our own experience. As a snowshoe hiker you are personally responsible for information, capabilities, condition as well as the right evaluation of weather and the avalanche situation. The operators decline any liability.
